Fifth Connecticut Prisoner This Month Dies of Coronavirus

The coronavirus pandemic is killing people in state prisons in Connecticut.

As of Saturday, January 23, five people in state prisons in Connecticut had died of the virus in January 2021 alone.

The most recent to die was a 57-year-old man serving a 40-year sentence for murder and arson. This man reportedly had “underlying conditions that led to his death,” according to NBC Connecticut. The name of the person has not been released due to medical privacy laws.

Out of the roughly 9,000 people in state prison in Connecticut, about 250 of them have the virus, state officials say. Over the course of the pandemic so far, about 3,600 state prisoners in the state have contracted the virus.
