Former Republican State Senator Dean Tran Files To Run For Congress

December 7, 2021

Former state Senator Dean Tran (R-Fitchburg) wants to take on a new challenge:  in Washington, D.C.

The Republican filed to run for the U.S. House seat in the Third Massachusetts District next year, according to a filing with the Federal Elections Commission. It’s the district currently represented by Lori Trahan (D-Westford). She ran unopposed last year.

This filing comes after Tran lost a tight re-election bid last year. Tran won a special election in 2017 for the Massachusetts Senate to represent the Worcester & Middlesex District. He won re-election in 2018 before losing in November 2020.

A Republican has not won a U.S. House seat in Massachusetts since 1994.
