Geoff Diehl vs. Karyn Polito? Fiscal Alliance Foundation Poll Suggests It’s A Tossup in Hypothetical GOP Primary for Governor

If Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker chooses not to seek a third term, who would win the Republican primary in 2022?

A recent poll conducted by the Fiscal Alliance Foundation suggests that if the primary is between former state representative Geoff Diehl of Whitman and current Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito, it could go either way.

Between February 22 and February 26, the Fiscal Alliance Foundation polled 221 people who may vote in the 2022 Republican gubernatorial primary and found that most Republicans (57.92 percent) are not sure which candidate they would vote for in a race between the two.

Among those who are sure, though, it’s almost a dead heat:  21.72 percent picked Polito and 20.36 percent went with Diehl.

That lead for Polito of 1.36 percentage points is within the poll’s 3.9 percent margin of error.
