George W. Bush Endorses Susan Collins

Maine Republican U.S. Senator Susan Collins got a former president’s endorsement recently. George W. Bush said he backs her re-election bid.

“She’s honest. She’s forthright. She brings dignity into a world that has gotten really ugly. The political world is uglier than I can ever remember it,” he told The Associated Press on Friday, August 21 in Kennebunkport, Maine, where the Bush family has a compound.

Collins trails Maine House Speaker Sara Gideon in the polls. The most recent poll to come out last week came from Public Policy Polling and had Gideon with a five-point lead over Collins: 49 percent to 44 percent. Seven percent of voters were undecided in the race.
