Great White Shark Spotted Off Cape Cod

July 23, 2020

Great white sharks are back off Cape Cod.

An eight-foot great white shark circled a boat for about 15 minutes just off the coast of Sandy Neck Beach in Sandwich over the weekend, as Fox News reports.

The group Atlantic White Shark Conservancy responded to the news in an Instagram post.

“This is another reminder that white sharks occur throughout Massachusetts’s coastal waters in the summer and fall, not just along Cape Cod,” the conservancy said. “Last year, four white sharks tagged by the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries were detected by an acoustic receiver maintained off of Salisbury Beach by the United States Geological Survey’s Conte Laboratory. Remember to be ‘Shark Smart’ no matter what beach you’re visiting.”
