Gun Control Group Endorses Maura Healey For Governor of Massachusetts

June 17, 2022

Massachusetts attorney general Maura Healey has picked up support from a gun control organization.

Giffords PAC, founded by former U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords (D-Arizona), has endorsed Healey in her campaign for governor of Massachusetts, according to Politico

Healey reportedly said that more gun control is not among her legislative priorities. However, she wants to continue with the gun laws that already exist in the Commonwealth.

“I am open to whatever we need to do to address and reduce gun violence in our state, but I also think there are things we know we can do, including enforcement of existing gun laws, support for national reforms … and showing the support for particular communities that are plagued by gun violence,” Healey said, according to Politico.

Healey is one of two Democrats running for governor. The other is state Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz (D-Jamaica Plain), who is positioning herself as the more progressive of the two.
