Holyoke Raises Irish Flag – But No Parade This Year

March 6, 2021

Organizers of the city of Holyoke’s typically annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade gathered to raise the flag of the Republic of Ireland at a memorial to President John F. Kennedy on Saturday.

“In years past,” reports MassLive.com, “the ceremony would have meant the start [of] a month of road races and parties and of course the famous parade. Not this year thanks to the continuing COVID pandemic.”

The flag raising Saturday, March 6 drew a small crowd, MassLive.com reports.

This will be the second March in a row with no St. Patrick’s Day parade in Holyoke.

South Boston’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade has also been cancelled. So have St. Patrick’s Day parades in Worcester County, Abington, and Yarmouth, among other places, according to IrishMassachusetts.com.
