Hypothetical Poll Shows Chris Sununu, Maggie Hassan In A Dead Heat In New Hampshire

July 23, 2021

If New Hampshire’s Republican governor Chris Sununu were running for U.S. Senate and the election were held today, it would be a tight race.

A recent poll released by the University of New Hampshire showed Sununu in a statistical tie with the state’s incumbent Democrat, Maggie Hassan. Sununu had 49 percent support while Hassan had 48 percent, while 2 percent of voters said they were undecided.

Sununu has yet to make an announcement on what he plans to do in 2022. Governors serve two-year terms in New Hampshire. He won re-election with more than 60 percent of the vote last year.

Both parties have 50 U.S. senators, so the state could play a pivotal role in determining which party controls the chamber in 2023 and 2024.
