July 13, 2020

U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) has endorsed a fellow democratic socialist Muslim female in the Democratic primary in the Fourth Congressional District of Massachusetts.

Omar, a member of “The Squad,” which includes U.S. Representative Ayanna Pressley (D-Dorchester), endorsed Ihssane Leckey, one of nine Democrats running in the September 1 primary.

“Building progressive power means electing candidates like Ihssane Leckey who are ready to help build a system that lifts up everyone and reflects the diversity of our country,” Omar’s staff wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 8. “Let’s send her to Congress.”

The seat Leckey is running to represent is currently held by U.S. Representative Joseph P. Kennedy III (D-Newton). Kennedy is running for U.S. Senate against incumbent Senator Ed Markey.
