Janet Mills Leads Paul LePage In Maine Governor’s Race, Poll Shows

September 26, 2022

Who has the edge in the race to be the governor of Maine next year?

If you believe the most recent poll, then the incumbent has the advantage.

An Emerson College poll released on Friday, September 23 found that incumbent Democrat Janet Mills has a double-digit lead over her Republican challenger:  former governor Paul LePage. The poll said that 53 percent of likely voters plan to support Mills while 41 percent back LePage.

LePage served as Maine’s governor from 2011 to 2019. He was ineligible to seek re-election in 2018 due to Maine’s election laws. The state prevents people from serving three consecutive terms as governor.
