Joe Kennedy III Says He Won’t Primary Elizabeth Warren

March 5, 2023

Will former U.S. Representative Joseph P. Kennedy III (D-Newton) run for U.S. Senate again any time soon?

If he does, it will not be against U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Cambridge), who was once his professor at Harvard Law School.

Warren is running for a third term in 2024 — and Kennedy is not running against her.

“Senator Warren is a friend. She’s an extraordinary leader,” Kennedy told Politico. “I hope and encourage her to keep doing what she’s doing.”

Kennedy unsuccessfully challenged U.S. Senator Ed Markey (D-Malden) in the Democratic primary in September 2020. Kennedy lost the race to Markey 55 percent to 45 percent.

Kennedy is currently the United States Special Envoy for Northern Ireland.
