Kamala Harris Leads Donald Trump In Maine, Poll Shows

August 1, 2024

Vice President Kamala Harris leads former President Donald Trump in Maine, according to a recent poll from the University of New Hampshire.

The poll found that Harris has 48 percent support in Maine, while Trump has 40 percent.

However, since Maine awards one electoral vote per congressional district and two for winning the popular vote statewide, Trump may get an electoral vote from the state. That’s because he leads Harris 44 percent to 40 percent in the state’s Second Congressional District, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is running as an independent.

In a head-to-head matchup between Trump and Harris, the poll says Trump leads Harris in the Second Congressional District (which covers central and northern Maine) by 51 percent to 49 percent in Trump’s favor — which is within the poll’s 2.5 percent margin of error.

Trump lost the statewide vote in Maine in 2016 and in 2020 but he won a single electoral vote by carrying the state’s Second Congressional District both times.
