Lowell School Committee Member Uses Anti-Jewish Slur On Live TV

February 25, 2021

A member of the school committee in the city of Lowell used an ethnic slur on live television earlier this week.

Committee member Robert Hoey Jr. appeared on the show City Life on Wednesday morning this week and referred to a former employee of the Lowell Public School system as a “kike.”

“We lost the kike, I mean the Jewish guy,” he said, according to Jewish Journal. “I hate to say it but that’s what people used to say behind his back – Gary Frisch who’s down in Beverly. I wonder how Beverly’s doing? He was the guy in charge of our budget.”

A brief clip of the comment is available on YouTube.

Lowell Telecommunications Corporation, which broadcasts the show, condemned the remark and pulled the episode, saying it will not be re-broadcast.

“We are appalled to hear the comment made by Mr. Hoey. The comment expressed is not representative of LTC’s values and beliefs,” the local cable access corporation said in a written statement.
