Maine Senator Susan Collins Trails Democratic Challenger In Latest Poll

August 8, 2020

Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins is not ahead in the latest U.S. Senate poll from the state.

Rather, she trails Democratic nominee Sara Gideon 47 percent to 43 percent, according to the latest Quinnipiac poll. The poll found that about 10 percent of voters are still undecided in the race.

Gideon has former President Barack Obama’s endorsement. Obama won the state twice.

One challenge Collins faces in the race is the fact that she will be on a ballot with President Donald Trump. Although Trump won Maine’s Second Congressional District in the 2016, he lost the state overall. Generally, Maine is not considered a swing state.
