Man Charged With Setting Ballot Drop Box On Fire In Boston

October 26, 2020

Boston police arrested a man who they say lit a drop-off ballot box on fire near Copley Square in Boston on Monday.

Worldy Armand, 39, of Boston, was arrested and charged with willful and malicious burning, as Boston 25 reports. There were 122 ballots in the box at the time he set it on fire on Sunday. Among them, 87 are said to still be legible, but not the rest of them. The city will reportedly give people whose ballots were burned another opportunity to vote.

City officials say they think that ballots dropped off between around 2:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday are most likely the ones affected.

The district attorney of Suffolk County, Rachael Rollins, called the suspect “emotionally disturbed.”
