Marty Walsh Misses Being Boston’s Mayor

September 3, 2024

Former Boston Mayor Marty Walsh misses his old job, he recently said.

The former U.S. Labor Secretary, who serves as the executive director of the National Hockey League Players’ Association, served as Boston’s mayor from January 2014 to March 2021.

When asked if he missed being mayor of Boston in a recent WBUR interview, Walsh said yes.

“Oh, I do,” Walsh told WBUR. “I mean, I miss the people. I miss the challenges of the job … but the biggest piece is missing seeing the people in the streets, going to the housing developments, doing the peace walks, going to the events. You miss that. You miss the action of talking to everyday people.”

Additionally, Walsh hasn’t ruled out running for public office again.

“I hadn’t really thought about being governor or senator or anything like that,” Walsh told WBUR. “I never rule anything out, but it’s not something that’s top of mind.”
