Massachusetts Democratic Party Slams Donald Trump Over Entitlement Reform

March 13, 2024

Massachusetts Democratic Party chairman slammed former President Donald Trump for expressing a willingness to cut Social Security and Medicare benefits this week.

“Donald Trump cares about himself and his wealthy friends, full stop. If re-elected we know that he would be unrestrained in his attempts to cut Social Security and Medicare because he has said as much,” Kerrigan said in a press release issued by his party. “More than one million people around our Commonwealth have earned these benefits and rely on them to live their lives with dignity. Donald Trump is out of touch and doesn’t understand how normal Americans live. We can protect these vital programs by re-electing President Biden and Vice President Harris to finish the job they started.”

The comment came in response to a remark from the former president on CNBC’s Squawk Box on Monday, March 11.

The host asked Trump if he would be open to entitlement reform to prevent the country from amassing more national debt.

“So first of all, there is a lot you can do in terms of entitlements, in terms of cutting,” Trump told the host. “And in terms of, also, the theft and the bad management of entitlements — tremendous bad management of entitlements — there’s tremendous amounts of things and numbers of things you can do.”
