Massachusetts Has Seventh Confirmed Monkeypox Case

June 17, 2022

The number of reported monkeypox cases in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is now up to seven.

An adult man, who recently traveled out of the country, tested positive for the virus on Wednesday, June 15, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The department has not released any more information about this individual.

The Bay State has had a disproportionate number of monkeypox cases; there have been 84 cases in the country this year, as WJAR points out. Yet Massachusetts has had one-twelfth of those cases. If the cases were proportionate to population, Massachusetts would have either one or two cases.
