Massachusetts Health Insurance Company Announces More Coverage For Gender Transitioning
June 6, 2024
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts has announced increased coverage for gender transitioning.
The company says it is “one of the first health plans in the country” that has “an integrated, clinical team dedicated to gender-affirming care,” a term used to describe gender transitioning, “to help members find the care and services that meet their needs during reproductive health and gender-affirming care milestones,” according to a press release dated Wednesday, June 5.
The health insurance company covers “facial reconstruction surgery,” “vocal cord surgery,” and “related therapy” for customers engaged in transitioning from one gender identity to another, the press release states.
The company also assists in what it calls “diverse family building,” according to the written statement.
These and other services, the company says, will help “improve health and wellness outcomes for the LGBTQIA+ community.”
