Massachusetts Lawmakers Set To Get Pay Raises

January 6, 2021

Members of the Massachusetts legislature can get a pay raise — if they want one.

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker wrote in a letter to State Treasurer Deb Goldberg last week that a 6.46 percent pay raise for legislatures is warranted, based on economic standards set in state law.

That means legislators can go from making $66,256 in base pay to $70,536 — a raise of $4,280.

This comes at a time of high unemployment and with less revenue coming into the state than usual as a result, as Boston 25 points out.

Additionally, lawmakers have the choice as to whether or not they want to accept the pay raise.
