Massachusetts Libertarian U.S. Senate Candidate Dies

September 19, 2023

An Athol resident who launched a third-party U.S. Senate campaign earlier this year has died.

Lou Marino, 48, died Monday, September 11, according to his obituary. The obituary said that he died unexpectedly “after being stricken ill.”

Marino launched a bid in March to run for U.S. Senate as a Libertarian after being a Republican for most of his life.

Marino criticized U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Cambridge), who he planned to run against, for railing against the rich while supporting policies that helped make the rich richer — like green energy subsidies.

“She lectures about the escalating difference between the super-rich and the poor even as she backs more environmental green energy corporate subsidies that increase the gap between the rich and poor,” Marino said in March, according to Athol Daily News. “Elon Musk became the richest man in the world thanks largely to green energy subsidies backed by Elizabeth Warren.”
