Massachusetts Population Surpasses 7 Million

April 27, 2021

Massachusetts now has a population of more than seven million people.

The 2020 U.S. Census counted a total of 7,029,917 residents in the state as of April 1, 2020, according to WCVB. That’s a 7.4 percent increase over the 6,547,629 residents the state had in the 2010 U.S. Census.

As a result, the state will not lose or gain any congressional districts. That number will remain static at nine. That’s positive news for the Democratic Party; Democrats have not lost a U.S. House race in Massachusetts since 1994.

The Commonwealth’s growth is equal to that of the rest of the country. Population for the United States grew 7.4 percent from 2010 to 2020.
