Massachusetts Republican Party Unhappy With Trump Conviction

May 31, 2024

Former President Donald Trump was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records in a New York court on Thursday, and the Massachusetts Republican Party is not happy with the decision.

The 12 jurors said that Trump falsified business records to hide a $130,000 hush money payment to pornographic actress Stormy Daniels in an attempt to influence the 2016 presidential election.

“I am disheartened by the outcome of this political prosecution,” MassGOP chairman Amy Carnevale said in a press release from the party on Thursday, May 30. “Today marks a profoundly troubling moment for the integrity of the American judicial system. The Federal Election Commission and the Department of Justice both investigated these allegations and chose not to bring charges against President Trump. It should have ended there. This case should have never been pursued by the Manhattan District Attorney driven by political ambition. We expect this verdict to be reversed on appeal and Joe Biden defeated in November.”
