Massachusetts Senate President Says She Supports Tax Cuts — Along With Spending Increases

May 6, 2022

Should the Massachusetts legislature cut taxes?

Massachusetts Senate President Karen Spilka (D-Ashland) says that the supports doing it.

Spilka said she would like to see it happen, if it’s balanced with increased spending.

“I believe we can safely balance targeted spending investments to a number of crucial areas, such as housing, childcare and higher education, with tax relief for individuals and families who are feeling the effects of inflation and continued economic disruption,” Spilka said in a written statement.

Spilka did not say which tax cuts she would support.

Governor Charlie Baker has also expressed interest in cutting taxes.
