Massachusetts Sneaks Bar Reopening Back To Phase 4

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker quietly shifted one part of the state’s reopening plan without any announcement.

The new plan is that bars will not be able to reopen until Phase 4 of the plan even though the state’s reopening plan announced May 18 stated that they would reopen in Phase 3.

Baker explained his logic at a news briefing in Lawrence on Tuesday.

“The big issue with respect to bars is coming up with a model that we actually believe can be done safely,” he said Tuesday, June 9, according to MassLive. “As we’ve seen in a number of other places around the country that have moved forward very aggressively, they’ve started to see a pretty significant rise in new cases, and we’re going to work very hard to make sure that doesn’t happen in Massachusetts.”
