Massachusetts State Fire Marshal Delivers Anti-Fireworks Message

July 2, 2024

Massachusetts is the only state where no form of consumer fireworks is legal — and the state is doubling down on this fact.

As Bay Staters purchase fireworks from each of the surrounding five states, plus Maine, State Fire Marshal Jon Davine has a familiar message for the state’s residents:  don’t use fireworks this Independence Day.

“Fireworks are inherently dangerous,” Davine told The Eagle-Tribune. “Possessing or using them in Massachusetts requires licensing and certification. They are illegal for personal use here even if purchased legally in another state. These laws work:  the rate of fireworks injuries in Massachusetts is about one-fifth the national average.”
