Maura Healey Says She Wouldn’t Enforce A Federal Gestational Limit On Abortion
June 26, 2024
In the unlikely event that the federal government sets a gestational limit on abortion, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey says the state would not enforce it.
“I wouldn’t put one dime, or any energy, or effort, or personnel into enforcing laws that are a direct violation of freedom, and women’s freedom, and autonomy, and the right to make decisions for themselves and the right to access needed health care,” Healey said, according to Politico.
Former President Donald Trump has said he wouldn’t pursue a federal gestational as president — something that would need 60 votes in the U.S. Senate to pass.
More than 63 million unborn children have been aborted since the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision in 1973 that legalized abortion nationwide. This past Tuesday was the second anniversary of the court’s Dobbs decision, which overturned Roe and sent abortion law back to legislatures, state courts, and state referendums.
