Maura Healey Slams Donald Trump Over In Vitro Fertilization
September 2, 2024
Former President Donald Trump offered an in-vitro fertilization proposal last week — and Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey says don’t buy it.
Trump recently said he wants to force insurance companies to pay for in vitro fertilization or have the federal government pay for in vitro fertilization.
However, Healey expressed skepticism about Trump’s proposal.
“You can’t take this seriously,” Healey told CBS News. “I mean, this isn’t just a Republican — and by the way, I work well with Republicans — this is Donald Trump, who will say anything and everything depending on where the wind is blowing. He caught some heat the other day, you know, and so he comes out with a statement that, all of a sudden, he’s a believer in IVF. It’s just patently false, it’s offensive.”
Trump proposed the idea last week.
“Under the Trump administration, we are going to be paying for that treatment,” he told NBC News.
“So, we’re going to be paying for that treatment, or we’re going to be mandating that the insurance companies pay,” he later added.
Some pro-lifers oppose in vitro fertilization for several reasons — most notably it results in widespread destruction of human embryos. However, the 2024 Republican Party platform expresses support for in vitro fertilization.
