Maura Healey Won’t Be A Sports Betting Governor

March 27, 2023

Will Maura Healey bet on sports now that it’s legal in Massachusetts?

The governor of Massachusetts does not plan on it.

When asked that question by WBUR, Healey, who played basketball at Harvard College, said, “Probably not.”

“I hope it goes well and there’s revenue for the state, and that people bet safely,” Healey told WBUR.

While legal in-person sports betting launched in late January at three casinos in the Commonwealth, six mobile sportsbooks launched on March 10 — a few days before the NCAA Division 1 men’s basketball tournament known as March Madness began.
