Melrose Democrat Scott Donohue Will Run For Lieutenant Governor Instead of Governor

May 25, 2021

Back in early March, a Melrose resident filed to run for governor of Massachusetts.

On Monday this week, however, he changed the purpose of his campaign account, according to the Massachusetts Office of Political Campaign and Finance. Now, Democrat Scott Donohue plans to run for lieutenant governor instead. That makes him the first Democrat to file to run for the position.

In April and March, Donohue did not receive any outside donations, according to Massachusetts Office of Campaign and Political Finance filings.

On the Republican side, there is only one declared candidate for lieutenant governor:  Randolph Republican Rayla Campbell, who ran a write-in campaign in the Massachusetts Seventh Congressional District last year against U.S. Representative Ayanna Pressley (D-Dorchester).
