Mexican Man Who Has Been Deported Eight Times Pleads Guilty To Illegally Re-Entering United States

May 16, 2024

A Mexican man who has previously been deported eight times pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien.

Ramon Alfaro-Orona, 39, entered the plea in U.S. District Court in Boston on Monday, May 13.

Alfaro-Orona was charged by criminal complaint in September 2023, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts.

Alfaro-Orona has been deported from the United States eight times — most recently on September 30, 2014.

He subsequently re-entered the United States at a time unknown to authorities.

On August 23, 2023, Alfaro-Orona was taken into custody by immigration authorities after his arraignment in Leominster District Court for three counts of larceny by check over $1,200.

Alfaro-Orona had twice been convicted of unlawful re-entry:  in November 2013 and March 2014.

“The charge of unlawful reentry of a deported alien provides for a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000,” the U.S. Attorney’s press release said. “The defendant will be subject to deportation proceedings upon completion of an imposed sentence. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes which govern the determination of a sentence in a criminal case.”

Judge Margaret R. Guzman in U.S. District Court in Boston scheduled sentencing for August 5.
