Moderate Republican Businessman Announces Campaign For Governor of Massachusetts

January 26, 2022

A businessman from Wrentham who describes himself as a moderate is running for governor of Massachusetts.

Chris Doughty, 59, whose gear manufacturing business Capstan Atlantic employs more than 1,000 people, says he would increase economic growth in Massachusetts and help make the state more affordable.

Doughty (pronounced DOUGH – tee) says in an introductory campaign video that he moved to Massachusetts 34 years ago.

Doughty told The Boston Globe that he voted for Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump in 2016, but that he voted for Trump over Joe Biden in 2020.

Geoff Diehl, a conservative former state representative and U.S. Senate candidate from Whitman, is also running for the GOP nomination for governor. Diehl has been endorsed by former President Trump.

The primary is set for September 2022.
