National Rifle Association Silent On Second Maine District U.S. House Race

September 21, 2022

The National Rifle Association is staying out of the U.S. House race in the Second Maine district this year — for now, at least.

The NRA endorsed former Republican governor Paul LePage in his race against Janet Mills for governor, but didn’t say who it favors in the state’s Second Congressional District, as CentralMaine.com reports. Former U.S. Representative Bruce Poliquin, a Republican, has an A rating from the NRA, while incumbent U.S. Representative Jared Golden, a Democrat, has a B rating. The independent in the race, Tiffany Bond, does not have an NRA grade.

Poliquin represented the district from 2015 to 2019 but lost his 2018 re-election bid to Golden. Poliquin won a plurality of votes in 2018, but lost because of lower-choice selections in the state’s new ranked-choice voting system.
