No Boston Marathon This Year

May 28, 2020

No one.

That’s who won the Boston Marathon this year. For the first time in 124 years, the race will not take place.

On Thursday, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced there will be no Boston Marathon this year. Previously, it was scheduled for September 14 after being rescheduled from April 20, as WCVB-TV Channel 5 reports.

Walsh explained the reasoning behind the cancellation to reporters at his daily press conference on Thursday, May 28.

“The traditional one-day running of the 124th Boston Marathon is not feasible this year for public health reasons. There is no way to hold this unusual race format without bringing large numbers of people into close proximity. While our goal and hope was to make progress and contain the virus and recover our economy, this kind of event would not be responsible or realistic on September 14 or anytime this year,” Walsh said.
