No Massachusetts College Basketball Teams Make March Madness Tournament
March 13, 2023
Are you a Massachusetts resident who wants to bet on a Bay State college sports team?
If so, then don’t look to March Madness for that opportunity.
While Massachusetts has had legalized sports betting since late January, Bay Staters cannot bet on college sports teams based out of the state unless they’re playing in a tournament.
The NCAA Division 1 men’s basketball tournament known as March Madness would qualify as one of those tournaments.
However, none of the nine NCAA Division 1 men’s basketball programs in Massachusetts qualified for the tournament, according to PlayMA.com.
The nine teams are: Boston College, Boston University, Harvard, Holy Cross, UMass, Merrimack, Northeastern, Stonehill College, and UMass Lowell.
Northeastern was the most recent Massachusetts team to make the tournament, earning a spot in it in 2019.
Sixty-eight teams make it to the March Madness tournament; there are 363 NCAA Division 1 men’s basketball teams.
