Open Communist Running For State Representative In Norfolk’s Fourth District

October 13, 2020

The Republican, the Democrat, and the … Communist?

That is what the ballot looks like in the general election in the Fourth Norfolk District in Massachusetts this year.

In the race for state representative, there are three candidates on the ballot:  incumbent Democratic state Representative James Murphy of Weymouth; Republican and Weymouth Planning Board member Paul Rotondo; and Dominic Giannone III of Weymouth.

Giannone, is a union member and boil maker. His designation on the ballot is the Workers Party, according to Wicked Local.

Giannone told the publication he opposes capitalism. In 2013, he said he considered himself a member of The Communist Party USA, according to the Patriot Ledger.

“My communist ideas shape who I am and what I believe. The shorthand I like to use is democratizing the economy to meet the needs of working people,” Giannone told The Patriot Ledger in 2013.

The Fourth Norfolk District covers most of the city of Weymouth (Precincts 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 17, and 18) and one precinct in the town of Hingham (Precinct 2).
