Pat Buchanan Slams ROE Act Passage

January 3, 2021

Paleoconservative political commentator Pat Buchanan slammed Massachusetts liberals for passing the ROE Act abortion expansion bill in this legislative session.

In his syndicated column, Buchanan noted that a minor cannot take a Tylenol at school without her parent’s permission, but the bill allows 16- and 17-year-old girls to get an abortion without parental or judicial consent.

“At 24 weeks, an unborn baby has a 60 percent to 70 percent chance of survival,” he wrote. “But the Roe Act covers this problem as well. If the “mental health” of the teenager is imperiled, she can still get an abortion.”

Buchanan also noted his disappointment with how far to the left things have moved on abortion in his lifetime.

“In the 1950s, abortion was regarded as shameful, even criminal, mandating excommunication from the Catholic Church,” he wrote. “Abortionists were social outcasts, often prosecuted and punished. Now, within the span of a lifetime, abortion has been raised, in what was once ‘God’s Country,’ into a constitutional and a human right.”
