Pro-Abortion Emily’s List Plans To Target Two New England Republican Governors

April 14, 2021

New Hampshire Republican Governor Chris Sununu and Massachusetts Republican Governor Charlie Baker will be up for re-election next year, if they decide to run again — and one pro-abortion group wants to try to take them out if that’s the case.

Emily’s List, a group with a focus on electing pro-abortion women, is not a fan of either of them. That’s the case despite the fact that they both support legal abortion.

“Their records are not good, not good for women, not good for families,” Emily Cain, executive director of Emily’s List, told WBZ. “And we’re gonna be calling them out on it every day.”

Although Baker supports abortion being legal and publicly funded, Emily’s List notes that Baker opposed the abortion-expansion ROE Act in Massachusetts last year. Baker vetoed the bill; the state Legislature overrode the veto in late December, enacting the bill into law.

Emily’s List also notes that Sununu supports banning elective abortion in New Hampshire after 20 weeks of pregnancy and that he vetoed a bill that would have required all commercial health care plans in the state that cover maternity costs to also cover abortion (HB.685).

The group is targeting nine Republican governors nationally.

“Each and every one of these nine Republican governors have failed to perform what should be their primary duty in office:  to use their offices to improve the lives of families across their states,” Cain said. “When faced with an unprecedented public health crisis, they prioritized politics over people and took cues from a willfully ignorant former president rather than informed experts.”
