Republican Former Boston Bruin Wins North Dakota Mayoral Race

June 15, 2020

Former Boston Bruins forward Brandon Bochenski was elected mayor of Grant Forks, North Dakota last week.

Three candidates ran, and Bochenski won the race Tuesday, June 9 with 49.62 percent of the vote.

“We’re going to get this city going again,” Bochenski told NBC Sports Boston. “We’re going to get business going again, get the economy going again. And we’ll build that tax roll through that so the burden’s shared by everybody.”

He defeated two other candidates, including a 20-year incumbent.

Bochenski, now 38 and a real estate developer, played 51 games for the Boston Bruins over the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 seasons.

Grand Forks, with a population of about 55,000, is the third largest city in North Dakota. Its mayor is part time.

His platform reportedly calls for tax cuts and job creation.
