RFK Jr. Supporting Reparations For Slavery

October 20, 2023

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has come out in favor of reparations for the descendants of African slaves in the United States.

While Kennedy is not a proponent of sending checks directly to black Americans, he says he wants the government to prioritize infrastructure development in black communities as a form of reparations.

“Communities that were specifically targeted for destruction need to be specifically targeted for repair,” Kennedy said in a written statement, according to the New York Post. “During Jim Crow, Black banks, businesses, hospitals, schools, and farms were targeted for destruction. Racists knew that without these, the Black community had no chance of building wealth. We must set federal dollars aside to rebuild Black infrastructure.”

Kennedy has not laid out a plan for this proposal.
