Rhode Island Begins Offering Gender Neutral Driver’s Licenses

As of Wednesday, gender neutral driver’s licenses are now available in Rhode Island.

There will be three gender options on a license: M for male, F for female, and X for those who identify as gender neutral.

“Representation matters at every level, and I am proud to make our government better reflect the diverse identities of Rhode Islanders,” Governor Gina Raimondo said in a written statement Tuesday, June 30, according to MassLive. “This change will allow Rhode Islanders who do not have a binary gender to finally see themselves correctly identified on their driver’s license.”

Massachusetts and Connecticut are among the states that already had such an option available.
