Rhode Island Congressional Candidate Compares Himself To Charlie Baker

October 4, 2022

What type of Republican is Cranston mayor Allan Fung?

Fung, who is running for the U.S. House of Representatives seat in Rhode Island’s Second Congressional District, recently said he is more of a Charlie Baker Republican than a conservative.

“I’m more of a Charlie Baker type of individual,” Fung told Axios, referring to the Republican governor of Massachusetts. “I like the work Chris Sununu is doing in New Hampshire, Gov. Scott in Vermont, those are the Republicans I model myself after.”

Phil Scott, the Republican governor of Vermont, is a fiscal moderate and a social liberal, along the lines of Baker.

Fung is running against Rhode Island state treasurer Seth Magaziner, the Democratic nominee, in an open-seat race for Congress. The incumbent, Jim Langevin, a Democrat, is not seeking re-election. The race is considered a tossup by The Cook Political Report.
