Sandwich Bans Sale of Single-Use Plastic Bottles

May 4, 2021

Single-use plastic bottles will likely soon be banned in Sandwich, Massachusetts.

Sandwich held its annual Town Meeting on Monday, May 3 and during it, voters approved a ban on the town-wide sales of single-use plastic bottles, as Cape News reports.

The environmentalist organization Sustainable Plastics has been behind the push to ban single-use plastics on Cape Cod. Its web site explains why.

“Over 1,500 single-use plastic water bottles are used and discarded in the U.S. per second,” it says. “Elimination of the use of single-use plastic water bottles will have a significant impact on future plastic-based pollution including the nation’s greenhouse gas footprint and is consistent with protection of the natural environment in Barnstable County, our nation and our earth, which we have a common responsibility to protect and steward.”
