Smith College Students Occupying Administration Building Demand Divestment From Weapons Manufacturers Supplying Israel and Immunity

More than 50 students at Smith College occupying an administration building are demanding that the school divest from weapons manufacturers supplying Israel and that the students get immunity from discipline for occupying the building.

The occupation of the building began Wednesday, March 27, according to the Daily Hampshire Gazette. It was continuing as of Monday, April 1, according to The Sophian, a student newspaper.

The president of Smith College, Sarah Willie-Lebreton, met with “five anonymous members” of the student group on Saturday, March 30, but the two sides did not reach agreement, according to The Sophian.

The student group is the Smith College chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine. The group posted a video on Saturday, March 30 on its Facebook page.

Smith College admits women and biological males who identify as women, according to the school’s web site. The college is in Northampton, Massachusetts.
