Transgender Vermont Basketball Player Receives All-League Honorable Mention

Rose Johnson, the 6-foot-1 male center on the Long Trail School girls’ basketball team, received a league honor this week.

Johnson, who identifies as transgender, was named Southern Vermont League Class D Honorable Mention, according to The Rutland Herald.

The D Division First Team and the Honorable Mentions list featured eight players apiece.

Johnson helped Long Trail make it to the Vermont Principals Association Division 4 state championship game last week, but the team lost to West Rutland 49-38, as NewBostonPost previously reported.

Johnson had five points and three steals in the loss.

Long Trail went 22-2 in girls’ basketball this season.
