Two South Shore Newspapers Cut Sports Coverage

October 5, 2022

A pair of weekly newspapers on the South Shore of Massachusetts have gutted their sports coverage.

The Whitman-Hanson Express and The Plympton-Halifax-Kingston Express will no longer be covering sports for the foreseeable future, according to internal memos reviewed by NewBostonPost. The two papers are a part of the same company: Anderson Newspapers.

The Whitman-Hanson Express primarily covered Whitman-Hanson High School sports while The Plympton-Halifax-Kingston Express primarily covered Silver Lake Regional High School. Both papers occasionally covered college sports, keeping track of local athletes’ performances.

Each paper had one sports stringer. Neither wrote any other content for the papers.

The cuts were made for budgeting reasons, according to the memos. It’s unclear if the coverage will ever return.
