Vermont Republican Party Cannot Support Donald Trump, Bylaws Say

June 11, 2024

The Vermont Republican Party cannot promote former President Donald Trump due to its own bylaws.

Since former Trump was convicted by a jury last month on 34 felony charges related to hush money paid to a former porn actress, the Vermont Republican Party has been unable to promote Trump in any manner, as NBC News reported.

That’s because the Vermont GOP’s bylaws prevent it from supporting candidates who are convicted felons.

Here is what the state GOP’s bylaws say:

1. The state committee will not support or promote any candidate for elective office who:

(a) is a convicted felon;

(b) has received less than 25% of the vote in two consecutive general elections as a candidate for statewide office; or

(c) has run for legislative, federal, or statewide office in a general election after being defeated in a Republican Primary for the same office in the same election year.

President Joe Biden is expected to overwhelmingly win Vermont in November.
