Vermonters Want Phil Scott and Bernie Sanders To Seek Re-Election

April 29, 2024

Vermont voters want their state’s liberal Republican governor and democratic socialist federal senator to seek re-election this year.

Fifty-eight percent of Vermonters want Governor Phil Scott to seek a fifth two-year term, while just 30 percent don’t; 12 percent are undecided, according to a University of New Hampshire poll released this week. Similarly, 54 percent want U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) to seek a fourth six-year term; 40 percent don’t want him to run again and 6 percent are undecided.

Neither man has said whether or not he’ll seek re-election. Vermont gives candidates until May 30 to qualify for ballot access.

Vermont plans to hold its statewide primary on Tuesday, August 13.
