Vice President, Cabinet Secretary To Discuss Abortion With Massachusetts Legislators

August 3, 2022

Vice President Kamala Harris and a Cabinet secretary plan to discuss abortion with Massachusetts state legislators and other public officials later this week, the White House announced.

Harris is supposed to hold a roundtable with certain state legislators in Boston on Thursday, August 4. Xavier Becerra, the secretary of the federal Health and Human Services department, is supposed to hold a similar meeting in Dorchester on Friday, August 5.

Harris also plans to attend two Democratic National Committee fund raisers on Martha’s Vineyard later on Thursday, August 4.

Governor Charlie Baker, a Republican, on Friday, July 29 signed a bill expanding access to abortion in Massachusetts.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris spoke publicly about abortion Wednesday afternoon during the first meeting of the administration’s Interagency Task Force on Reproductive Healthcare Access. Biden and Harris touched on the win for abortion supporters in Kansas on Tuesday, August 2.

Critics have suggested the president is anxious to discuss abortion to try to take attention off inflation and contraction of the economy.
