Wegmans To Close Natick Grocery Store This Summer

June 2, 2023

Wegmans plans to close one of its Massachusetts stores this summer.

The 1245 Worcester Street in Natick location will be shut down at an unknown date this summer, according to Boston 25. The store’s 365 employees were notified of the decision on Thursday, June 1 and will be offered positions at other Wegmans in the state.

The store is in the complex off Route 9 commonly known as the Natick Mall.

“Making these decisions is never easy. However, we do it for the long-term benefit of our people, our customers, and our communities,” Brien MacKendrick, human resources director, of Wegmans New England division, told Boston 25 News. “Unfortunately, with this non-traditional location, we are unable to attract enough customers for our business model to work.”

The Natick location opened in 2018. It is 134,000 square feet and has two levels. Wegmans has five other locations in the Greater Boston area. Company officials say the company has no plans to close those locations.
